MEDITATION ON LOVING MOTHER NATURE

One of the most ancient archetypes across all traditions is that of the Mother, and even more specifically, Mother Nature. Sometimes she is called Prithvi, or Gaia, or in Hindu mythology, Bhumi Devi. Bhumi Devi is the symbol of fertility and stability, and is revered for being the source of all vegetation. Any time we are in touch with our ability to create (be it children, art, success in business, or otherwise) we are being touched by the energy of the Mother. When we feel secure, grounded, and that we have enough we are being held by the energy of the Mother. When we connect to nature through the foods we enjoy, the flowers we smell, or the outdoor activities that make us feel alive we are taking a meeting with Mother Earth.
In the times we live in and the urban environments we are surrounded by it is easy to become disconnected from our natural states or lose touch with the elements of nature. This simple meditation is designed to give you greater awareness of your connection to the Earth and re-establish your ability to focus and manifest all of your worldly desires in the most positive manner, for the greatest good…
Sit comfortably either on the floor on a cushion or in a chair. If you are in a chair, make sure the soles of your feet are touching the ground. In either case, do not lean back and aim to keep your spine straight. It is helpful to set a timer so you can track how long you will be sitting without having to open your eyes. Take a deep breath in and shrug your shoulders up at the top of the breath, rolling the shoulders back and down as you exhale through your mouth and close your eyes. Ask yourself, “What do I want?” You may get answers that are emotional, physical, material, anything at all. Again, ask, “What do I want?” Let the answers flow in without seeking them, or perhaps no answers come at all. One last time, ask, “What do I really want?” taking a deep inhale, and then exhale powerfully letting any tension roll right off your back. Continue sitting with your eyes closed, and begin repeating the natural (primordial) sound associated with the Root, or Earth, connection, which is “Lam.” Silently repeat this sound over and over again, favoring it over any other thoughts, for up to 20 more minutes. Practice this daily, perhaps outside, and may the abundance of Mother Nature’s countless blessings fall at your feet!
Namaste!
