Style Profile: Dana Farrell

| February 1, 2012 | 0 Comments

This month I wanted to feature a successful local career woman who has mastered that rare blend of professionalism, healthy balance of work and life, and of course, great sense of style.  Many times women feel the pressure to do it all and often find themselves stuck in just doing for everyone else. I personally believe you can manage to have it all.  However, maintaining it all requires a loyal and encouraging support system,  an unwaivering belief in yourself and the ability to NOT feel guilty about doing for yourself!

Meet Dana Farrell, co-owner of Harvest Seasonal Grill & Wine Bar located in Glen Mills.  Dana is a consummate professional in everything she does.  She is more than the adorable petite blonde you see socializing at all the hottest parties!  She is also a busy mom of two who is constantly multitasking between family, running a booming local restaurant, and keeping fit and fabulous.

For those of you who are not familiar with Harvest I will give you the quick overview.  Harvest is a farm-to-table restaurant that not only has a gorgeous interior, but also offers delicious fare where almost everything on the menu is less than 500 calories.  I sat down with Dana and got the scoop on how it all began, how she juggles her days, and of course manages her style! Oh and did I mention she is a runner and does triathlons too??!!

About Dana

JA: Being a mom, restaurant owner and athlete, how do you manage to balance it all?  And when the stress gets to be too much, how do you relieve the stress?

DF: Exercise as part of my daily routine is key for me to staying balanced. I do yoga to give myself time to feel centered and grateful. It’s also really important for me to surround myself with people who bring out the best in me and who want the best for me.

JA: Please describe your personal style in two sentences or less.

DF: Simple with a splash of sparkle.

JA: What inspires your day-to-day style?

DF: The days events really determine my day-to-day style. Often I go from meetings, to Harvest, to pick up my kids and then to an event so what I wear day-to-day needs to be comfortable, not fussy and needs to easily transition from day to evening.

JA: What are some of your favorite trends today?

DF: I love shimmery fabrics and the simplicity of all-white looks.

JA: Do you have any style icons?

DF: Angelina Jolie, Rachel Zoe, Kate Middleton, Halle Berry

JA: What is your signature look?

DF: A great pair of jeans and something that sparkles

JA: List some of your favorite places to shop in Philadelphia area?

DF: Sorella Boutique, Per Lei, Vivi G Shoes & Nicole Miller

About Harvest:

JA: How did you and Dave Magrogan (CEO of The Dave Magrogan Group which includes Kildare’s Irish Pub and Doc Magrogan’s Oyster House and the co-founder of Rhino Living) meet and join forces to create Harvest?

DF: We met at a U2 concert in Barcelona. I was familiar with him because I received his Rhino Living emails. Dave had secured the space, formally leased by the Gap at Glen Eagle Square in Glen Mills, PA to recreate his “Grady David’s” concept and I was searching for a location to build upon my experience as a former owner of The Classic Diner. We shared a very similar core vision in that we both saw the need for a high quality, farm fresh menu created with the healthiest ingredients local farmers and purveyors had to offer.

JA: Who is your typical customer?

DF: Our customer base consists of active, discerning families who have become increasingly educated in food and very health conscious. The demographic wants to enjoy our menu in an upscale-casual, welcoming and stylish atmosphere where they can relax with friends or feed their families.

JA: Can you tell us a little about the interior of Harvest? The atmosphere, ambience and the inspiration behind the design elements used throughout the restaurant?

DF: In choosing Harvest’s interiors, Dave and I wanted to respect and celebrate the environment. Rich earthy tones mixed with subtle accents of color both mimic nature and provide a backdrop for beautifully simple food. By using reclaimed wood flooring, recycled glass bar tops and paperstone dividers, we have worked diligently to help reduce the “footprint” left by Harvest. The spacious dining room, the cozy bar, and the relaxing outdoor patio offers a comfortable ambience for any meal, whether it be with friends or family.

JA: Harvest has an incredible commitment to community. Can you talk a little about why giving back is so important to you and Dave and please tell us what charities Harvest is currently involved with?

DF: I think giving back to the community is a way to express your gratitude to the people that support you. It also keeps in the forefront of your mind that nothing should taken for granted, it could be you that needs the support someday. We support many charities on different levels, 2 of them are Adopt-a-Pig:Change Matters for Kids with Cancer and The Rocky Run Y Strong Kids Campaign.

JA: I understand that Harvest is opening a 2nd location. Can you tell me a little bit about that and if the style will be similar to the Glen Mills location?

DF: Harvest will be opening at 40th & Walnut in what used to be The Marathon Grill. When we created Harvest Glen Mills, we knew that the plan would be to expand, so we kept that in mind with the decor while also in keeping in mind what Harvest means as a brand. The plan is to transform the current space so that it has the warm, earthy vibe that you get when you walk through the doors of Harvest Glen Mills. To do that we will be relocating the stairs, the elevator and the entrance, which was a key factor in knowing that the space could work as a Harvest Seasonal Grill & Wine Bar.
