Network Raise $4 Million

Philadelphia, Penn. March 2011- Together with Aveda, Lux Spa and Fitness is holding an Earth Day Special and Walk for Water in honor of Earth Month and in support of organizations around the world working to preserve access to clean water. In developing nations, one child dies every 21 seconds from preventable conditions like diarrhea, due to unsafe drinking water.  The stark differences between access and rights to safe drinking water globally are startling enough to inspire much needed change – a movement that can empower communities, protect local watersheds and help make clean water accessible to everyone, everywhere. As the campaign moves into its 5th year focusing on clean water, Aveda Earth Month 2011 will help to achieve this change, by directing funds from this event to support our local Earth Month partner, The Clean Ocean Act.

Now in its 12th year, Aveda created Earth Month in April 1999 to raise awareness and funds for critically important environmental issues around the world, and has since raised more than $18 million for organizations that directly affect environmental change, and $12 million for water-related causes alone over the past four years.
Key Earth Month 2011 fundraisers with Lux Spa and Fitness include:

AVEDA WALK FOR WATER

On Friday April 22, 2011 the global Aveda network will participate in an initiative to acknowledge the daily struggle of and raise awareness for people around the world without access to clean water. Lux Spa and Fitness the top contributing Spa pervious years with Walk for Water, will be hosting another walk. The cost of the walk is 25 dollars per person and it is all donated. Overall, the Aveda Walk for Water campaign:
o Unites the Company’s network and guests in a series of walks in 100+ cities globally
o Is executed locally by Aveda salons, spas and Institutes to benefit local water-related organizations.
o Will extend six kilometers-the average distance that women in developing countries walk to collect water each day.

WHERE EARTH MONTH MONEY GOES

For the fifth consecutive year Aveda is partnering with Global Greengrants Fund as its exclusive global Earth Month partner to provide grants for community-based water projects in more than 40 countries. Global Greengrants Fund provides small grants to grassroots organizations working for clean water, clean air, sustainable livelihoods and healthy communities around the world. Aveda’s 2011 Earth Month funds will also support 35 regional partners working to preserve clean water in areas where Aveda does business.
